Neal for DH?

Neal's bat apparently is getting hot but his defense is a liability behind the plate. What's the chance that CJJ decides to swap out Travinski at DH to preserve Neal's bat in the lineup with Milazzo catching? I know Travinski has 14 homers and all but I really haven't been impressed with his AB approach lately especially during conference plays. His batting average has fallen to .284 lately compared to .356 from last season, and his SOs so far (51) have doubled compared to last season (25). Just too many SOs and lazy swings from him. Thoughts?

Zero. Go look up their stats for the season, for SEC, or whatever. Neal isn't going to replace Travinski in the lineup.

What about Neal at DH and Travinski at C on Sundays? I’m sure Travinski can handle catching 1 game a week and that would get Neal’s bat in the lineup

Bama is starting lefties first two games of series so that may axe that plan at least until Sunday
Didn't Neal play RF early in season, maybe that could be an option if you take Brown out

Still doing MUCH better than Neal. Travinski was kind of an unknown last year when he cracked the lineup. Now everyone has a scouting report on him. He's getting pitched differently and still doing well enough to be where he is. He's got the third best BA of qualified batters in conference play (4th if we count Larson).

More at bats = more strikeouts.

Larson is staying at RF

I was literally typing out a thread about exactly this, but you worded it way better than I could have.
Travinski has not been in form lately. sure, a couple HR's but it's either a HR or groundout/K

Neal’s bat lol. He struggles against ok pitching. Go look at his average in SEC play.

oh I agree, but Neal has hit pretty good his last couple games, and it’s worth giving him one last shot in case he gets hot

Neal got a good hit against A&M on Sunday. But let's not confuse him hitting Grambling and Northwestern pitching as him flipping a switch. Neal has not had trouble hitting non-conference pitching all season.
Neal is batting below .200 in SEC play. Even if you just go back to the beginning of April, I think he's 3 for 19 in SEC play during that time.

Millazo needs to catch.
Travinski needs to stay at DH.
If we get to a situation where we need a ton of runs on a Sunday, i'd be good with Neal catching and/or DH'ing with Trav catching.

I think something that gets lost in the shuffle is how inexperienced Neal is when it comes to plate appearances. He has just hit the point where he has more plate appearances than Milazzo did his freshman season. And I’m talking strictly SEC. Their averages are nearly identical, as well as strikeouts. Neal has just a tick higher OBP but that’s basically where the similarities end. To this point Neal has 4 career HRs in SEC games to Milazzos 0. And the RBIs are 9 to 1 in favor of Neal.
With that said Milazzo has improved every year in the sec and should be our primary catcher going forward. Neal has a higher ceiling, but he is just going to need reps. Same goes for Kling. Getting Neal some at bats in SEC games is going to be crucial to his development. There aren’t going to be a ton of SEC experienced catchers available in the portal, and as we saw with Mac Bingham and Tyler McManus, success in other conferences doesn’t always carry over to the SEC.

Since April 1st, Neal has slashed:
.281/.441/.876
9-32
6 HR
1 2B
11bb/10ks
This place would be going atomic if Alex Milazzo had homered 5x in his last 6 games and wasn’t in the lineup lol
Dude pokes a single up the middle & everyone gets hard

the problem is 3 of those last 6 are UNO, Grambling and NWST.
and he went 5/11 with 3 of those HR.
but he’s still 2/7 with 2 HR and 3 BB in his last 3 SEC games. thats that’s pretty good too.
he just can’t string 2 solid SEC games together.

Uhhhh what?
Trav may be slumping a bit, and I would agree that his ABs have left a lot to be desired for lately.
However, the thought of removing his bat from this lineup at this point in the season is laughable. Dude has some of the most experience hitting SEC pitching on the team. Also, what world are we living in where he has not been good in SEC play? Prior to aTm, he was hitting 325 in SEC play for the entire month of April dating back to the Vandy series.
Hell, even if you’re looking at it in a vacuum (last 3 SEC games - so dumb but whatever), he had 2 critical RBIs in GM 1 & 2.
Either way, there is no chance he is coming out of the lineup barring a complete collapse over the next 2 weekends. Idk why, but the short-sided views on this board continues to baffle me. Do some research, or access something other than your immediate short-term memory (if you even watch consistently) before posting.

MilazzGOAT isn't playing over Neal because of his hitting abilities, but you already knew that.

at some point neal was batting like .092 in SEC play and milazzo was hitting .350
at that time Milazzo should have been playing because of his bat.

I like Neal a lot. He's young and I think he's going to be really good, but he's not hitting SEC pitching consistently. If his defense was better, I'd be the first one screaming for him to be in the lineup.

What would you gain? Just play Neal at catcher if you want those two bats and you are willing to trade defensive catching.
