My kid at 13 should earn his eagle scout rank by the end of the summer. He's just finishing up his eagle project where he built/welded a bench for the city park at the local local fishing pond and collected over 150 fishing rods to be used by special needs kids to teach them how to fish. I can't speak for anyone but our family, but it's been one of the best things he's ever done and very much shaped him as a young man.
That that being said, I'll say is there's a bunch of "I have no idea what I'm talking about" in this thread.

It's really about who runs your local troop. As a parent you can be as involved as you want and can still provide a great learning / character building environment for kids (hurts to not be able to just say "boys" there).
And congrats to you and your son. I know you, as a parent, were right there with him.

If your kid is an Eagle Scout at 13, I’m not so sure it was “earned”
Granted, I slacked and made Eagle right before my 18th birthday, but there’s no way a 13 year old should be an Eagle if the program was run properly.

Your son should be proud and you of him, but yeah, why rush to Eagle at 13? What's he going to do for the next 4-5 years?
