These movies keep getting more and more expensive to lesser grosses, which means your net significantly decreases.
Agreed that budgets need to be adjusted, but here's some numbers from deadline

Last year, Disney had four titles in the top 10, three of them Marvel movies: Avatar: The Way of Water ($531.7M net profit), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($284M net profit), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($259M net profit) and Thor: Love and Thunder ($103M net profit).

3 movies is fine. Where they lose me is with the shows.

You say pause after Endgame but the Spiderman movie that came after Endgame was a bonanza for Marvel and that property is probably more valuable then Avengers movies right now
Of course Sony could always throw a wrench into it and assuming you can keep Holland involved

Hollywood Accounting should be illegal and investigated by every level of the law. In no world does a movie that makes over $2.3 BILLION only turn a profit of just $532 million. That is hilariously stupid and a flat out lie.
Let me guess, they spent $1.3 billion on marketing.

Marvel needs to cut out the shows entirely most people didn’t watch the shows anyway aside from Loki and WandaVision.
What they should do is have three separate teams or mini Avenger teams that always interact with each other
Space
New Guardians plus Captain Marvel and Thor
Earth Avengers
Strange, Banner, Sam, Monica, Clint, Ant-Man and his crew
Street level
Spider-Man, Kamala, Daredevil, Yelena, and Kate
This way you can expand the MCU while it not feeling so disconnected like it does now. Also brings in some new interactions as well

Same, I’m not watching Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, Agatha, and fricking Echo in order to know what’s going on in the next team up movie. It’s too much and shouldn’t be a requirement
And having Wiccan and Hulkling be gay together in Agatha is another reason I ain’t watching that shite

Right. The Netflix shows were perfect. In the MCU, but also not.

it also blows my mind how expensive they are.
You would think all the green screens that Disney Owns would save them money.
I am sure there is some Hollywood accounting in effect

It's really antman and the Marvels that tanked, but things aren't as bleak as people make it seem.
Oh I guess all the streaming stuff costs nothing to make

yeah I agree
I think it would have been fine if they stuck to big names, but introducing what are now minor character in stand alone movies isn’t going to move the needle anymore.

I agree. The interesting thing to me those is that the immediate stuff following Endgame (Spider-Man, Wandavision, Hawkeye, and Loki for example) I thought were all pretty solid, even great at times. But to your point, it was just a lot of stuff coming out way too quickly and it all became too much to keep up with.
Movies started coming out where they really expected viewers to have like watched 5 movies and 4 TV shows to get understand much of what was going on.
And then following that initial post Endgame content that I thought was pretty good, the quality started dropping off precipitously.

I was talking about the films. Streaming is much more difficult to gauge since we don't have all the data. But this is more from Iger's call today. Looks like Disney plus is turning a profit.

Disney’s entertainment direct-to-consumer business, encompassing Disney+, Hulu and Disney+ Hotstar, turned a profit in the quarter: Operating income was $47 million (compared with a loss of $587 million a year ago) on revenue of $5.64 billion (up 13%) for the period, which was the company’s Q2 of fiscal 2024.
Disney+ Core (which excludes Disney+ Hotstar in India and other Southeast Asian countries) gained 6.3 million subscribers in the period to hit 117.6 million — above forecasts — up 6% sequentially. The company previously projected Disney+ Core subscriber net adds of 5.5 million-6 million.

I get your point but Moon Knight was really good and can stand alone.

For the purposes of this conversation, it isn't difficult at all. Most of the streaming stuff is crap, and there's way too much of it regardless of quality.

Wasn't Disney+ reportedly hemorrhaging money at an insane rate?

I mean they essentially did. Spider-Man FFH was by Sony and that was the only thing between Endgame and Black Widow.
The problem was the idiotic suits and DEI peddlers invaded Kevin Fiege’s kitchen and fricking with everything. The man printed you a mint and you want to think you know better than him? Get fricked.

Hollywood accounting will have people believing crazy stuff.

Meh, it’s roughly a 40% good to great, 40% meh to solid, 20% shite to subpar.
ETA: the bigger issue is that some of the series feel pointless as they have a cohesion problem while some of them were clearly initially developed as 150ish minute movies that were given a hour or so of filler to stretch over 6 episodes.

It's never been about the quantity. It's always been about the quality. Disney won't change anything and they'll go down as a result.

Bingo. No one complains about having a lot of good content. People don’t like mediocrity and they hate crap. It’s no coincidence that their DEI pushes coincided with their quality downfall.
