These guys most often, if they ever get good, its for their 2nd or 3rd or 4th team, not the team that drafted them
Which begs questions.
Is the problem the rookie scale, the length of contracts, the lack of time the younger guys spend in the D League depending on draft position, or something else?
Are teams not giving these guys enough time or is the problem that, once you develop them, RFA and UFA means you don’t really benefit from them?

Nah some guys just need to change teams or be on the fringe of getting cut until they realize what there role and how hard they have to work to make it.
Chris Finch had an interview where he said NAW didn’t play any defense when we drafted him, and it took him a few years to develop that part of his game. NAW thought he was going to be a 20 ppg guy his first two years, wasn’t til after he got traded and bounced around that he realized he needed to be a defensive stopper.

The reality is the NBA is really difficult to adjust to and a 4 year contract is really not that long. If a guy has obviously figured it out during their rookie deal like a herb, trey or zion then the team will keep them. If a guy has not totally figured it out by their 2nd or 3rd year then they're probably trade bait because it's not worth it for the team to give them a 2nd contract and that team probably has another crop of young guys they want to invest in.
For every NAW that figures it out on their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th team there is a Kira Lewis or Jax that just never figure it out and are out of the league.
We gave NAW a ton of time and reps to figure it out here. It just didn't happen here, it is what it is
