But they do not mention Armadillos. So I assume they are further north or west than the deep south (including south Texas). What you have does look like an armadillo hole to me
Have you seen any track in the area? Take a picture and post that if you do. Holes like that can be a burrow if deep enough or they can simply be animals digging for grubs and such which expands the possibilities to things like skunks.

I'm in BIrmingham. Dont' think I've seen any armadillos around that I can recall
