A budget airliner, which SWA is, doesn’t need to be paying industry leading rates unless they change their business model.

I don't know that Ive considered them a budget airline in perhaps 10+ years. They are not the cheapest. And there is no chance of an upgrade. Their budget-orientation of the early years gave them a good name with casual travelers and their policies keep the casual travelers.

I avoid unless timing demands a Southwest ride.

not sure when the last time you booked southwest but typically they are the most expensive any time I look at flights. almost double most of the time.
