Do we have an argument to get in a regional…

If we don’t get to 13 or 14 SEC wins?
What does the committee take into consideration when it comes to a teams record in conference and out? I’m not aware of many other teams that have played the schedule we have. It’s kind of nuts that we are going to end up playing two weekend series against the #1 ranked team in the country.
iMO LSU does have a legitimate argument on its hands in regards to scheduling. We don’t have to go any further than ULL to get an idea. By my count they are 1-4 against teams that were ranked when they played. Yes they have an impressive conference record but 9 of their 13 losses have come from out of conference opponents.
LSU has played more games against ranked teams in just two SEC weekend series than ULL has played the entire season. Not to mention the fact LSU has actually beaten ULL head to head on a neutral site. LSU also has more wins against ranked teams.
I’m not saying that LSU deserves to get in, but their out of conference record has to carry some weight. I also don’t think this team could win a Super Regional, but I do believe there isn’t any team in the country that wants to see LSU in their regional.
Curious to hear from the guys who know more about the committees selection criteria from the past bc from everything I can tell, we need 14 conference wins to get in. Has there ever been a scenario where a team had such a loaded schedule, poor conference record, and still got in?

Only argument is what happens in the next three series and SECT. 13 wins (which is a longshot, but not impossible) plus two wins in SECT should push them over, given not many stolen bids.

When you say stolen bids are you talking about some team like McNeese winning their conference tournament and getting an automatic bid?

Imagine being happy going to play in the Lafayette regional

No. We do not have an argument whatsoever. If the best argument is "you're letting another team in that played a weaker schedule" then why ever let teams in that play weaker schedules? ULL has won against the schedule it was handed and LSU has not. LSU lost to Southern, Xavier, Stony Brook, Missouri, and Auburn. We've been run ruled 4 times in conference.
No we do not have an argument.

UL isn’t getting a regional.

Short Answer - Nope.
Long Answer - Nope, time for football

Why wouldn’t a fan be happy to see their team play post season baseball? Especially with a legitimate chance to win. That’s weird

If LSU has 13 conference wins, they’re getting in with their RPI. I don’t understand how some of you have yet to grasp this.

Auburn’s schedule is just as tough, if not tougher than ours. And we don’t get any benefit of don’t because our OOC schedule is so bad. Schools like Florida Texas A&M, Wake Forest, etc can boost their resume by winning midweek games against good competition. We can’t do that.

13 is the bare minimum
LSU is not a lock with 13 though, especially if you have enough upsets in tournaments stealing bids

Last year Georgia: 29-27 (11-19) had an RPI hovering around 40. Like LSU, they played a strong SEC schedule. One that included winning series against Kentucky and Tennessee, along with sweeping Arkansas. They didn't make a regional
LSU is on pace for a better overall record than 2023 Georgia. But it will be against a weaker NC schedule. LSU currently has an RPI of 42. Also, LSU hasn't won any SEC series of note. Beating Missouri and Auburn won't move the needle.
Bottom line is this: The next two weeks will likely determine LSU's season. If they can take 2/3 vs. Alabama and A&M, they will have a decent shot of sneaking into a regional. Lose both series, and you can pretty much close the book on postseason play.

They should be close to top 16

I guess what I’m asking is if there is a human component similar to what the playoff committee did this past year leaving Florida State out and putting what they viewed as the 4 best teams in the playoff.
If that exists, then it’s hard to say LSU isn’t one of the 64 best teams, regardless of their conference record.
I don’t know how they decide who is in vs out.
In regard to Auburn, they also have a losing schedule overall. Hard to compare them to LSU.

Why do you think that?

I am using them as an example because they have a tougher schedule than us. Our better overall record is somewhat negated because of how weak our OOC schedule is.

There is a human component to the selection, but the FSU situation is not comparable. FSU got left out not because they didn't do enough prior to selection Sunday (they were undefeated), but because the committee didn't think the could compete in the playoffs without their QB. Basically, the argument was the team that went 12 is not the team that would be in the playoffs.

Is LSU better than many mid-major teams who will make the tournament? Yes. But that is not how it works. Those teams will get spots because they won auto-bids. The question is "is LSU one of the best 34 "at large" teams? Right now, probably not.

their rpi is lower than ours i believe

Well if you consider ULL one of the 64 best teams and LSU has a head to head victory over them on a neutral site, then it’s hard to say ULL is better.

That’s a really dumb way of thinking in regards to a sport like baseball. Lesser teams lose in baseball all the time, it’s why they play so many games. Beating ULL by one run in early March by no means proves that LSU is the better team.

If LSU gets to 13 wins their rpi will improve drastically. They are almost a lock if they do this.
