Was it trespassing when the capitol police pulled the barriers back and waved people into the capitol buildings grounds?
Are we ignoring the riot and violence/force used prior to that? If so, why?

It's a typical Trump comment to get himself into the middle of an issue and rile people up without actually saying anything
Get everyone worked up, his side will clarify he didn't mean physically stopping peaceful protests, etc. etc.

Protesting is a core constitutional right and is legal until it crosses into criminal activity such as trespassing, violence, vandalism, etc... Simply saying mean things, even if they are anti-semitic, or calls to violence should not be illegal if they don't turn into violence or other criminal activity.

He should be smarter than to throw out ridiculous smoke bombs like this, but then, he wouldn't be Trump.

What does illegally setting up lunatic camps on college campuses have to do with speech?

Irrelevant to my point entirely.
For someone who claims to be in possession of a real JD, you sure are dense.
The First Amendment guarantees right to free speech in voicing criticism of the GOVERNMENT. Columbia University or any of the other fledgling commie factories which masquerade as centers for higher learning are NOT THE GOVERNMENT.
There is no protected right to call for a holy war against Israel by outside agitators taking over a university campus.

Do you feel this way about J6?
The United States Capitol building and its grounds are public property.
The Capitol building is a working government building and a symbol of American democracy, and it is open to the public for tours and visits.
The grounds surrounding the Capitol are also open to the public and are used for various events and activities, such as protests, rallies, and ceremonies.

I think protesting is stupid but it shouldn't be cracked down on unless they're interfering with another's property/person, etc.

Irrelevant NPC babble
Again, my comment already covered this.

If you're arguing that Columbia is private property, and Columbia feels they're trespassing, then they have legal recourse.
"Paid agitators" is an irrelevant NPC talking point that is not applicable to this discussion.

None of this is relevant to a violent riot forcing entry into the Capitol without permission.

98% of this board would have called the protestors terrorists if Hilldawg and libs did the same thing as Trump/J6ers.

Will it really matter?
I obviously don't think very highly of Trump, but stuff like this is expected and doesn't bother me. Whether or not I think the right of peaceful protest is sacrosanct, I don't really care about whether some of those get tossed out their terrorist loving friends. Maybe I should, but I don't.
I also don't think Trump cares at all and I don't think he'll spend 90 seconds today thinking about the substance of the protest issue or the underlying issue, so I wouldn't waste time reading into the tweet.

Students have a *limited* right to protest on campus, but they have no right to set up a "liberation zone" and impede others' movement through it.
Not sure if these rights differ according to whether the university is public/private (I don't think they do).

Like shutting down highways, schools and businesses.
If they want to protest and shut down congress, I would be fine with that.
