Larson coming up three batters earlier and droppin his balls on the first pitch he sees. Had we had speed on second base, that would have walked it off too.
Dat baw ready to put the team on his back

It doesn’t really matter at this point but I would just like to know to kinda get an idea of how Jay evaluates players. Really wish one of the reporters would ask him what he saw or didn’t see with Larson in the Fall that he felt like he wasn’t ready to start the season in the lineup.

He was asked recently. Felt like he was coming in at the end of spring but didn’t think he was ready

He hit .204 in fall. Jake Brown hit .321
So Jake Brown started the year. Brown was hitting well early in the year then went on a huge slump and hasn’t been in the lineup since. Larson was the opposite. I don’t think this is really a “misevaluation” as much as a young player quickly maturing

Well that’s pretty impressive if he wasn’t there yet and then basically gets thrown to the wolves in sec play and looks like a 3 year starter. Really excited to watch him the next few years

That’s fair. I don’t think it was a misevaluation, it’s just really remarkable that he went from the 3rd or 4th option in RF to being one of our best players and being one of our better hitters in the SEC. He looks like one of those guys that just has it like a Duplantis, Morgan, Crews, etc that just come in as a freshman and hit .350 every season. The at bats he has are just different. I didn’t keep up too much with the fall and spring so I’m not aware of who did what, so that’s why I’m asking.

2 different seasons bud lights come on !

No matter who we had on, they weren’t scoring on the Larson hit. He roped that and the RF had it pretty quick

It wouldn’t have matter who was on base. It was a hard hit line drive with the RF in and the runner would have had to make sure the ball was behind him. The right fielder was barely behind a deep playing second baseman.and charging. He did bobble the ball a little but he knew he wasn’t needing to throw by that point.
The third base coach had to put on the brake sign.

And, also, let's not forget... Let's not forget, Dude, that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for, you know, domestic... within the city... That ain't legal, either.

Dude, go look at Larsons fall stats. Jesus.

I looked at the fall stats and he out performed Neal who you retards keep forgetting was also force fed a shot before Larson. It wasn’t like it was a two horse race between Brown and Larson. And if we are being technical then technically he outperformed Pearson in most metrics as well in the fall.

Different position, not a Freshman.

Neal started games in RF which is currently the position that Larson is putting together a freshman all American worthy season at.

Neal literally started games in RF
He's a catcher. Thats where he plays 99% of the time.

You are making my point for me and not even realizing it

Exactly. Larson found a rhythm and kept it.

You have no point. Larsen and Neal arent interchangeable. They are different players for different situations.
One is also a soph, not a frosh like the other guy.

Did Neal, who you admit is a catcher 99% of the time, get starts in RF earlier in the season while Jay Johnson was trying to find someone to take the RF spot?
Your original comment was telling me to look at the fall stats. Which I did and Neal “the sophomore” preformed worse than a true freshman at the plate in the fall. If you want to say that Neal preformed better in the Spring than Larson that is fair, but then Larson also preformed better than Brown in the spring so there is that.
My whole argument wasn’t that Larson should have been given first crack over brown. I don’t even think it was unreasonable to give Pearson a shot over Larson. I was simply curious why 4 other guys, one being a full time catcher and one of the worst hitters in the sec last year, got looks in RF before Larson.
And when you look at it even further, Larson had the 2nd lowest K rate in the spring at 7%. He improved from 35% in the fall. Everyone else that got chances before him were from 23% to 30%. When the team struggles to move runners and even have productive outs, I think it’s fair to question these things. His overall stats in the spring might not have been great but he wasn’t striking out either. I’m not sure what goes into determining if a guy is ready or not, but it feels like not striking out is a decent indicator.

Well, one good thing is that any team looking to pick up a national champion type coach can easily find one by coming to the Rant.
