Pelicans and Saints could bolt soon. But why is NOLA NOT a sports town compared to NYC, LA, Chicago, etc.?

What’s the definition of “sports town”

Why can't NOLA support teams like the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd biggest cities in the country?

I wouldn't say LA is a "sports town".

We just don’t have the money anymore… if the competition was Birmingham, Shreveport, Memphis, OKC, and Jackson we’d compare, but against Houston, Atlanta, and Dallas, much less NY, Chicago, and LA? Not anymore

They support the Dodgers and Lakers but that's about it. Chicago and NY, even Boston and Philly shows out for all of their teams.
They may have some fairweather seasons in the others sports like when Gretzky was on the Kings and their cup runs or when the Rams were new again and made a run to the SB but their devotion as a whole pales to the other American cosmopolitan cities

Metro population isn't that high.
Lack of big businesses to buy luxury boxes etc.
Lots of factors.

This is a source of pride. Being a diehard for sports means nothing else is going for you or your city.

Any city that has something else other than sports going for it is called a bad sports city. Ex. A, Miami, Ex B L.A.

This makes absolutely zero sense

They support the Dodgers and Lakers but that's about it.
Also, compared to other major metro areas, its supports USC and UCLA to a decent degree
quote:can't speak to NY but meh on Chicago. The Angels get better support than the White Sox and people just seem to forget that Chicago really didn't support the Blackhawks well for decades prior to their run in the 2010s
Chicago and NY

Ticket sales don't tell the story. The Chargers finish in the top half of NFL attendance too, because fans of opposing teams in town buy the tickets to see the team they want to root for or fans go to take a trip to LA along with seeing their team. Especially in division games, Raiders and Chiefs fans take that stadium over. The Raiders haven't been in LA in like 30 years but there's probably still a bigger Raiders presence in LA than either the Rams or Chargers.
