i saw Mother's suggested to you on the other board. Ive eaten there twice and was very unimpressed both times, although i didnt have a poboy.

not so sure about inexpensive for a really good meal. I mean if a burger or a poboy is what your looking for then most places will have you covered on that.

Someone also suggested reading the menus outside the restaurants to give you an idea of what your getting into....thats good advice.

Youre in New Orleans, you gotta get some good gumbo and seafood!

If you want a burger go to Port of Call, but don't go to New Orleans & just eat hamburgers. Try K-Paul's. It's a nice place, but not fancy and they have great traditional Louisiana dishes.

Commander's Palace in the Garden District. IMHO it is one of the best restaurants in the world, no kidding. Hard to beat the turtle soup and the artichoke-oyster soup. Just about everything is outstanding.

Deanie's seafood in Iberville, one block east of Bourbon. Order the giant seafood platter for $48.00 it will feed 8 and you will have food left over.

If you decide to try Commander's Palace, go to lunch there during the week. 25 cent martinis at lunchtime.

Brightstein's on Dante Street is very good also and has some "early bird" specials.

If you're in Metairie, try Quarter View on Clearview Pky. or Crazy Johnnie's by Lakeside Mall.

I saw Central Grocery mentioned on the Rant. If you check it out, you have to get a Muffeletta (sp). For a burger, as mentioned, you won't beat Port O Call. Jock Imos is a pretty good restaurant.

I see were several people here have already mentioned Port of Call. I'm not from New Orleans, and can not give you a large list of places to eat, but any one who visits New Orleans, should try Port of Call. You will not regret going, I promise. Any one in the quarter can tell you how to get there.
Enjoy your trip.
