I dont know if there is any truth to this, but I heard out of Atlanta that Gtech is REALLY putting alot of emphasis on their passing game in their bowl practices. Its no secret how much our secondary struggled and while they will stick with the triple option a little bit, they plan to pass alot more than anyone is anticipating to throw LSU off guard. Anyone hear about this?

Anything they want to do that's "new" to their offense at this time of year...I'm all for it.

I read something to that effect too somewhere. GT wants to surprise LSU with a passing game. Smart move IMO.

He'll be running past them as Tyson Jackson stops to take a breather on every other play.

If you believe some of the articles about the game and the GT fans, then I'd say there's a lot of truth to it. It's perfectly reasonable for GT to get braver with the pass. We have a crappy pass D and they know it. Why not try to exploit it? I'm not so worried about this game. One thing that is somewhat reassuring is that the Tigers are practicing their asses off. Front page article

quote:

Those preparations continued down the grueling path Tuesday, as Coach Les Miles kept the team going well past the practice's scheduled 6 p.m. end. That marks the second consecutive day Miles has pushed the intensity level, and several players have praised the heightened tempo and physicality of the team's preparations for No. 14 Georgia Tech (9-3).

The team sounds pumped.

From the few games I have seen of Tech on TV...heres their offense: run up the middle, run to the left and run to the right...repeat 68 times. Seriously. Unfortunately they do this VERY well and stretch out defenses and that # 21 up the middle is a killer...cause you will stop him cold 5, 6, 8 times...but they pound on you with outside sweeps...then one half mistep by a LB and that dude is taking it to the house. Very wishbone like in nature...true option.Good luck and please do better than the mutts did.

It would be cool to see how many passes they have thrown this year. I think it was 6 against Miami.

you do not have to hear it-- any good coach would throw against us- we put no pressure and blow coverages- we are 12th nationally against the run- so yes they will throw- they all throw against our D

Well, this topic begs the question, should a team play to its strengths, or to its opponents weaknesses? Obviously, where the two match up, that's a win-win. However, if GT's strength was a passing attack, surely they would have mixed in more passes throughout the season. The stats say otherwise; GT's strength is its running game, and that will surely remain the focal point of their attack.

So I doubt very seriously GT will change its whole game plan for this one game. However, given the weaknesses in our secondary, you can bet they will mix in a few new wrinkles for this game, and ones likely involving passing. I doubt very seriously that we will see a whole new game plan, IMO.

Johnson has always had a run and shoot passing package in his offense. He was never able to implement it at Navy b/c of personnel. But we knew he would here at GT.

I'm assuming he's using the "free" weeks of bowl practice, coupled with the weakness of the LSU secondary, as an excuse to go ahead and put some in.

That said, I highly doubt we see a 65/35 run/pass ratio like he ran at GSU. Maybe next year he will have all of it installed, but I would imagine they are working on just enough right now to try and take a little advantage of LSU's pass D...I'm guessing we see somewhere in the range of 12-14 passes(with the extra passes being 15-20+ yards) rather than the 6-8 we've been seeing.

Our pass defense will be able to contain GT's pass attempts........seriously.

We may all be a bit surprised by our wounded Tigers. GT better be prepared.

LINK

Ask and you shall receive.

We don't pass much, but it's good when you can go for 47 first down passes on 66 completions. It's also good when you can go for 41 of 66 for over 15 yards, 14 over 25 yards, and 2 TD's over 80 yards.

Josh Nesbitt also threw for about 5000 yards in HS,IIRC.

GT will pass more than usual. CPJ has the run part of the game as the centerpiece and he wanted to get that running well before he put in more of the passing plays. He has the time to leading up to the bowl game, and there's extra reason to since LSU's pass D has been weak this season.

I expect to see a lot of play action in this game.

Considering what LSU has done in PASSING D,
if I were G Tech, I would add some pass plays.

They figured that we are going to get so concentrated on the triple option,(since we are not used to it) that a pass play every now and then can bring big benefits. LSU needs to be disciplined....
a strange word to this team.

It's this way with every team we face. PJ's desire has been to install the run & Shoot package, but it's taken all fall to get the option working well, and he never had time. Now we've got the basics of the option down, and he has a few extra practices. Turns out that your pass D is not your forte, and that's a good thing for us, but I think we'd be doing this regardless of the opponent.
