The city of Amsterdam will ban nearly all new hotels and restrict the number of tourists who can stay overnight each year in its latest effort to combat overtourism. This is in addition to the strict limits on AirBnBs and small B&Bs. This means hotels prices will become very expensive.

Places like Haarlem are about to blow up, and some enterprising Dutch chaps are going to make bank doing shuttle services

They are sick of the groups of young British guys who come in to get stupid drunk and hire some entertainment in the red light district.

They don't want those guys.

Zaandam is a beautiful city and is a short train ride from Amsterdam. These smaller towns are going to boom.

Heading there at the beginning of June. We're staying in Leiden to save on the hotel. It was considerably cheaper than Amsterdam.

I've been there a handful of times and never really fell in love. The city is stunning but the "lets go to some and get laid" thing plus the throngs of tourists really makes it unlovable. I think this is a wise move by the city.

Also with the some of the best public transit in the world, this just means the outer ring suburbs are going to blow up with hotels and everybody will stay out there. The unintended consequence is that those suburbs are going to balloon too fast with traffic and people they were never meant to handle.
