Look into Guerilla Skeptics. They are a group that changes Wikipedia pages to suppress topics they don't believe in. They have a $5 million annual budget and have over a hundred people changing pages so they can't have their edits vetoed unless a larger group is organized.

If there are groups getting paid to go around changing pages about ufos, ghosts, religion, alternative medicines, etc then what do you think other groups are doing on political pages?

Most large public entities have been corrupted. The Government generally sets the rules, and like Charles Krauthamer said, "if you get your politics wrong, it all goes bad from there".
