Well, 15lbs is a lot. And certainly if a “speed” back were to gain 15lbs, they would lose some of what defined them.

Simon runs differently than the other guys, and is noticeably thicker. Would you disagree that they all do not have similar running styles? I’m not sure why you are so insulted & triggered by the gadget moniker lol.

It’s certainly more common but I would not say the “vast majority” prefer to use multiple backs. Most teams will by default will have a primary guy & a backup that will get run. The % split depends on the team. And it has been that way for awhile.

Looking at Harlem Berry, it will be a disservice to him to have a joe McKnight type career when he could potentially be a Malik nabers or morris Claiborne at another position. He wants to be a RB I’m sure, and you suit him. But getting 12 carries a game out of him is not getting a full bag.

Im ranting now, but the bottom line is James Simon offers you a pretty clear feature type back. “We have talented guys already” is fine, but you need a mix & you need a centerpiece & he is that. Then you funnel the other guys off of him.

Lindsey could easily be around 200. He's 185 currently on his On3. He'll gain around 10 from Jr to Sr year, and once he gets on campus the nutrition and weights will combine with natural growth.

I still really like Berry and Simon as the two best backs in the state. Lindsey is a solid back and kids from Ash have done well at LSU.

I said less than 15lbs, and 15lbs is not "a lot". Berry is within 13lbs and Lindsey 5lbs. These are all very similar sizes. Let's not pretend someone who is 190 is notably bigger than a guy who is 185 or 177 all within same height range.

These guys are all more than capable of carrying college loads on them. They arent 5'11 160 or something. This is not 2003 any more, you dont have to have a 5'10 220 lb back as your #1 guy. Calling 200lb guys "gadget backs" was just plain silly, not sure why you cant admit that.

Again, last season nobody in CFB had more than 23 carries a game, only 7 backs in the entire country had between 20-22.something carries a game. These are not the days much any more where teams really just ride a dude hard. There's so much more passing and athletic running QBs now where it's very rare to find teams giving a ton of carries to 1 guy every game. The average carries a #1 RB has across CFB has continually dropped year over year.

Kaleb Jackson would be as old school of a bell cow type back out there and I doubt we're going to ride him for 20-22 carries a game on average. It's just way better in most cases to keep fresher legs out there.
