Going there for a conference. Staying around the convention center. What is there to do besides avoid getting feces thrown at me by the homeless?

Grand Central Market is close by. It's a food lab with a good variety of restaurants inside. Santa Monica Pier isn't too far either.

My suggestion would be to go south toward Newport Beach/Balboa Island and Laguna Beach. Rancho Palos Verdes is a nice area too.

Just came back from the west coast.

As far as traffic goes.... use WAZE and you'll be fine with the traffic there.

It's not too bad, everyone understands how to drive and you are just constantly moving 7 lanes of everyone going 60 mph

Trust the app and just be patient.

About 2.5 miles from the convention center there’s the art district

In particular there’s an art gallery, which has locations around the world, named Hauser & Wirth that was built in what used to be a former flour and grain mill.

The building is cool as shite, the art may or may not be good (it changes every so often and is contemporary art, when I went I liked some of the exhibits but others were crap). And there’s a chic looking restaurant called Manuela that looked like a nice place to grab a drink and hang out (didn’t eat there so can stay anything about the food). I did eat at a nearby Japanese restaurant as it’s near little Tokyo.

Grammy Museum & Staples Center (i'll never call it crypro.com) are real close.

Natural History Museum is just south of you on USC's campus.

I always recommend the Warner bros tour. Best studio tour in LA if you have time.

LA is very hard to visit over a day or so. The residential architecture there is very rich. There is a museum called Schindler House near Hollywood that is really cool early take on modern architecture. It’s considered the first modern style house built in the US. Schindler built it himself and lived there for years.

Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA and a great Mexican Market.
