Updated the OP with the new watch schedule. We'll finish S1 and start S2 this week.

I can't pretend any more that I get why people gave up on this show because it was too slow, if you made it to episode 4, you should be hooked. Episode 4 was loaded with stuff. I'll start with your stuff and come up with some of my takeaways too.

Okay, so the story Morley tells Billy about how Flint killed that couple on that ship...do we know who that couple is or why Miranda would want them dead?

Not yet.

quote:

Man, Miranda has a fricking KILLER body. I forgot just how sneaky hot she is. Flint banging her and looking completely uninterested is hilarious though, and something I didn't grasp during my first watch. He says it's because she read that book to Richard Guthrie, but that's not the real reason...

No it's not the real reason. But yea, like I say, I think Miranda might be the hottest person to me this go around. She's definitely a little hidden freak for sure. It takes a certain type of person to screw a pastor.

But my guy was like a typical OT'er giving her the three best pumps of her life

quote:

Flint is one lucky MFer to have Morley crushed by the ship.

Kind of wish Morley's character was around a little bit longer, I liked him. He was one of the truly good guys I think. The end of episode 3 or 4 that ended with him telling Billy "that's because you don't know about Mrs. Barlow" was a cool end to that episode. They mystery of Flint just builds and builds.

quote:

I forgot how cool the scene was where they finally catch the Andromache

Just good from start to finish. Billy's mind has to be running wild after finding that letter. In the middle of a battle and he's trying to figure out if the captain is even on their side/has any good motives.

Bryson was kind of a badass himself. Dude is about to get attacked and he's making sure the chinaware cargo is bundled up safely. He had a pretty decent plan for sure that would have worked if the slaves didn't find a way to get a message out.

quote:

holy shite Dufresne went primal when he ripped that dude's throat off...with his fricking mouth. That was wild

quote:

I forgot about the scene with Billy and Flint. But I won't comment on that yet since there are some here who are on a first watch.

IMO, this is where you really start to wonder about Flint as far as "Jesus, does everybody around this dude die? And is he killing people on purpose or do bad things just befall people around him?"

quote:

Are we going to still do three episodes for next week, or just the remaining two left in S1?

I'd prefer just to do the two but I feel like people are having a hard time with stopping. There is a lot to take in on the season finale. But I'm fine either way.

No it's not the real reason.

I assume we'll find this out soon then?

I think this may be why the show is so good. Flint is the main character, and for lack of a better word, the "good guy." But there are constant reminders that maybe he's not such a good guy. And that also goes for other characters as well. They all seem to portray "good and bad" but most of them are pirates, who by definition are bad guys who steal and murder innocent people.

But this show does such a great job of interweaving various forms of "good' and "bad." Hell, Anne Bonny is a murderous feline, but she also has a good heart at times for Max (even though she gave Max to her crew knowing they would rape and kill her). Vane is a badass a-hole, but has a soft spot for Eleanor. Eleanor tries to do good for her community, while also doing what she can to gain/keep control. Hell, even the pastor, who should be an ultimate good guy, betrays his vows and fricks the town sloot.

Nobody (outside of very few people) can be officially defined as good or bad. It's very similar to The Wire in that regard (good people do bad things and bad people do good things, and nobody is black and white...there's always some gray).

Yeah I liked Bryson and wish he would've stayed around longer. He seemed like a worthy foil for the pirates.
