So scope and definitions change as the acts change. For example cereal killers existed but weren’t recorded until the latter half of the century so definition and identification of that type of crime changed. What changed as far as the pros business? Like Roger said economic opportunities but I’d also add a lot more immigrant crime organization which is where the trafficking becomes more prevalent.

Like the Italians in the early 20th century? Who ran prostitution in NY, NJ, Nola, etc?
Asian massage parlor memes have existed as long as I've been alive, and the meme existed as far back as the mid-19th century during the Railroad/Western expansion, when Chinese immigrants flooded the West Coast.
None of this is new.
*ETA: also like I said, It's almost a guarantee the peak of this stuff was in the mid-80s to mid-90s, like all other social pathologies (violent crime, teen pregnancy, abortions, etc.). That was the worst time in American history in terms of social pathology and immorality. Pretty much everything peaked then.
