They've been everywhere lately, and tonight I walked out on the porch and they're swarming the window.

I haven't noticed a lot of aphid activity, but there must be something for them to eat.

Most all of these are Black Horned Green Lacewings.

The Red Lipped type come later in the year.

For those who don't know, lacewing larvae are voracious predators of aphids. The larvae are often called aphid lions.

If you see something like this:

leave them alone. They're lacewing (likely green lacewing) eggs that will benefit you and your plants and trees.

I'm up in NE Alabama. They're thick as thieves around my house the last several days.

Yeah, I'm in north central AL, and I think ECB is closer to the Birmingham area. I'm wondering what has caused the boom. They're everywhere, even daytime when I walk across the yard, they fly up. I can't remember having seen them like this before.

Haven't seen many of them... but the mosquito hawks aka crane flies have been crazy at my place near Guntersville.

I've just decided I'll catch the ones I can by hand that get in the house for now and break out the shop vac in a few weeks when the plague is over.

Yeah, I've got a bunch of crane flies, too. It has been a bumper year for them all over the Southeast it seems.

Tonight, the there is a cloud of green lacewings on my porch, the most to this point. I've never seen anything like it. If this is any sign there shouldn't be an aphid one left around my place.

These things appeared at my house this morning. Had to be a thousand. Bouncing up and down in the air over our landscaping.
