IRS agents perform all sorts of jobs. A friend of mine who is retired from the IRS worked undercover for a bit with the ATF investigating the Boston mob.

That’s the one thing I don’t frown on the IRS doing. Collecting payroll tax.
That is the employees money that has been withheld. Not the businesses. No one wants to have a business withhold your money for your income tax or FICA and use it to pay for bills that month. They want it going where it should go.
