What do you think?

There is no doubt, there's a reason they're not rated for humans. There's no physical barriers to keep your arms or fingers inside, which could quickly be removed as you pass through the floor of your upstairs.

IF I were to ride on it, I'd try to be relatively sober, and IF I were to let my mom ride on it, I'd ride with her and make sure she kept her arms by her side, and not lean on the sides.

Of course, it'd be a relatively easy and safe fix to put some plexiglass or such panels inside it to create a barrier.

But it's invaluable for large appliances, groceries and luggage. Then again, we live at our camp.

A bit further away from you, but there's a biz in Maurepas that I used, Diversion Boat Lifts, that did mine, (and several neighbors), and he did a very good job. Worth a call for you.
