People said the same thing when I bought T/VZ at decades low a year ago, not they are both up 30 percent or so.
as poorly managed as T has been, I'd much rather take my chances with them than cracker barrel.

Food was CRAP this weekend. That’s all I got.

T is down nearly 40% from a year ago. Congrats?

You should see a doctor about that.

And it looks like those who jumped in and got the divi are now green in the stock.

I can tell you as a person who has owned and followed this stock for a few years it may go up 10 dollars or more in a small stretch but after that run it usually finds another 52 week low back on its way back down. I wouldnt boast to much about this stinker.

Thus the old rule. Take your profit. If they got this for the divi, and they had 100 shares, they added roughly $300 to their total profit.
People that play the dividends are not normally going to hang onto it.

I hope they make bank. I’m not rooting against this stock.

I don’t own (never have) or follow CBRL. But it just popped up on my news feed that shows stocks hitting fresh 52 week lows: 53.85 a few minutes ago.
Buying a stock just to capture the div isn’t something that I do. But if one wants to own the stock anyway, and it’s a longer term investment play, there’s nothing wrong with buying it pre ex-div. But attempting to short term trade, with the ex-div as the trigger for going long… not something that I’d do. But again, I don’t consider myself to be a stock trader.

I've been dividend capturing recently. I just make sure I don't mind getting stuck with the stock. After the record date passes I set a limit order to sell.
Been doing OK with that so far.

What do you base your limit sell on?

Price per share a few cents above the purchase price. Basically break even on capital gainz with a small margin for error built in (I've had other limit orders go through slightly above my max buy price or slightly below my minimum sell price.)

I have been out of this stock for a while but figured i would pass my experience with it to others in hopes they would stay away. It was only a matter of time before this found another 52 week low.

CBRL is holding a conference call on May 16th where it is believed one of the things they will do is cut the dividend.
They could cut the dividend in half and still have a 5% yield at $50/share.
Would I be a buyer of CBRL at $50 share? Maybe.

That strategy seems crazy to me. You must love unnecessary taxes.

The biggest issue with Cracker Barrel is their core demographic customer Seniors. This is one of the hardest hit groups with inflation. Many cannot afford to eat out anymore because they are on a fixed budget. I do see them cutting Div at the next meeting and this stock not doing much for a while. 50 would be a good spot to get back in.

Huge dividend cut just announced.
"In conjunction with this plan, the Company is modifying its capital allocation to support increased investment in the business to drive organic growth. As part of this shift to increase investment in the business, the Company has reduced its quarterly dividend to $0.25 per share."
This was more than I expected. I thought they would cut it in half.
