The problem is that to pick up a blitzing LB, either someone is going into coverage or extra people are used to pick up the blitz. If that isn't happening, there's a breakdown and the defense is down a man. Defense that have their best player completely neutralized aren't going to win alot.
Perkins was one dimensional and was beginning to get exposed. In order to not be exposed, he had/has to learn things that people don't want to admit.
There was a play last year where Perkins went in motion with a TE or a WR in the slot. He then blitzed and easily got to the QB. That play doesn't happen if he doesn't learn to guard some people on passing plays.
