The book is incredible. I've read it many times. I watched the first episode and they made several changes already. They didn't exactly make the communists likeable but they don't call them communists. I don't even know if they called them bolsheviks. Some other character changes that didn't seem necessary (like his cousin playing a predominant role, rather than getting jammed up very early by the bolsheviks for bolshevist shite) and also that the Count never fantasized about escaping in the book. He wasn't a pussy. They made him a pussy. I'll keep watching. It is cool to look at and McGregor does a good job. Ossop showed up too early. The bishop looks appropriate.

Unfortunately, I haven’t read the book. Maybe that’s why I wasnt captivated by the first episode of the series. There’s more to the story.

I love the story in the book, but I just don't like Towles writing style. I got thru Lincoln Highway, but Gentleman just went on and on. I think his style is too flowery for me and I just miss the point. I'm loving the show. McGregor is doing a great job and I love the rest of the cast as well. I feel the changes make good TV and cut out things that seemed a bit extraneous to me in the book. A TV series adaptation can never have as many characters. I don't think the Count looks at all like a pussy. In the show he constantly shows how they won't beat his spirit.
