Jesus what a shitshow.
Funny thing is it's only this difficult because they've "simplified" everything.

i had this problem with eero and there's this fricking weirdo 'turn on legacy 2.4ghz network for 10 minutes' option that is BURIED and where you get to try & scramble to hook as many home automation devices as you can before the time runs out.
i have a vanilla ATT fiber modem/router ATM and luckily i had the option to set up both a 2.4 and 5 separately.
i dont know why they gotta make everything hard.
some devices just dont need 5ghz network and i dont see that ending anytime soon. i just set up a new MEROSS garage opener and Tesla wall charger and had to jump on the 2.4 for both.

It's not just Google. When you have IOT devices, I've seen a consistent problem in getting garage door openers, sprinkler controllers, etc., connected to a 2.4/5GhZ bonded network with a common SSID. The same happened to my Eufy scale and vac with both a Netgear and a TP-Link router.
