he's good in everything, but never great IMO. he was actually one of the worst people in the dark knight. the scene where bruce wayne is sitting in the chair crying after rachel dies is probably the worst scene in the movie because he couldn't sell it. as SFP said a while back on here he seems to have a plastic face. his characters seem to lack any real depth and he isn't great at displaying emotion. he doesn't have the range to be a great actor

See I like that movie, but plenty of people on this board hate it.

They need to acquire some taste IMO

I don't think he is.

Admittedly, the way he talks is a part of that.

He's good though.

Don't use the Dark Knight to gauge his acting ability, although I thought he was good in it.

Go see Rescue Dawn, 3:10 to Yuma, The Machinist, American Psycho, Laurel Canyon, and The Prestige and then come back and ask that question

Not yet, but I think he might be able to work himself into a great actor.

i've seen nearly all of those and he really didn't impress me very much. i watched the prestige last night and hugh jackman > he was in it. so was michael caine. that's the main reason i posted this

Bale is a great actor. His ability to cover his Wales accent really blew my mind. Didn't even realize he was welsh until I had already seen several of his films. He was pretty damn good in The Machinist, American Psycho, Dark Knight and Equilibrium. The guy without a doubt is devoted to his roles. His transformation in The Machinist left him with some pretty nasty kidney damage if I remember correctly.

I'd say he is top 5 in the business, I don't see how anyone could put him outside of the top 10.

these are exactly the type of comments that made me start this thread. he's definitely good, and his devotion to his roles is unparalleled, but he just isn't as great as people make him out to be for the reasons stated above. i could name 5 actors that put him to shame pretty easily. the best thing he has going for him is his choice in roles
