EXCLUSIVE: Our council tried to force us to sell our £200,000 home to make room for asylum seekers: Elderly couple's horror after strongly-worded letter lands on their doorstep

An elderly couple who had just moved into their £200,000 house were horrified to receive a letter from their council suggesting the property could be subject to compulsory purchase and used to house asylum seekers.
Jose and Ted Saunders said they were 'insulted and shocked' when the strongly-worded letter from North Northamptonshire Council – which has never balanced its own books - dropped on their mat last month.

It said their neat mid-terraced house in Rushden, near Wellingborough, was deemed to be an empty property, or was 'derelict' and the council could even force them to sell it.
'I couldn't believe it,' said retired carer Jose, 76. 'We moved to Rushden to help provide childcare for my grand-daughter and found this nice little place to live.
'The idea of forcing us to sell it to make room for refugees and asylum seekers seems totally wrong.'
The things that we are told are not happening keep happening.

That is happening in a lot of places in the UK atm, in Manchester they kicked out 20 families to make room for so called Asylum seekers and locals are pissed

England is so weird with their "councils" they have for everything.

How do they know their house weighs 200,000 pounds? That's 14,286 stones.

They deserve the government they elected.

The UK has proven to not be worth the blood and treasure of WWII. Never again.

Why does the council believe the property is un-used?
This kind of stuff happens pretty much everywhere. The few city council meetings I've had to attend are mostly people betting the council for an extension or waiver to avoid a property being torn down.
