but we didn't just let Clark get hers, we let her get a lot more. She scored 9 more than her season average.

So not only did our scheme not work, it was far worse than how other teams fared with her (on average).

Once it became clear that our defensive approach to Clark wasn't working, it was malpractice to not change it up.

As I said in other posts, and as others have also posted, we could've doubled Clark and forced the other Iowa players to beat us. We could've aggressively attacked all ball screens (we waited until mid 4th quarter to do that). We could've played denial defense full court to keep her from getting the ball - or at least make her work a lot harder to get it. We could've trapped Clark immediately in the frontcourt to force her to give up the ball. Maybe she gets it back later in the possession, but it burns shot clock and makes her work. We could've tried different defenders on her - which we did a little but HVL was guarding Clark for FAR too long.

There were a lot of things we could've tried. Maybe none of it would've worked, but damn, it's win or go home. Try it all.
