That way, they don't have to think about it. They don't have to process it.
They don't want to deal with reality. They don't want to deal with facts. They don't want to deal with details.
It doesn't affect them, so they don't care.

Do not conflate the overuse of the word with it having no meaning. While I think it gets thrown around way too liberally, I'd never be foolish enough to pretend like it doesn't exist. Even today.
