Been watching some of this and what do they have to hide that needs to be kept secret? I know there are a lot of conspiracy theories out there but some of this stuff is interesting to contemplate

My guess is not that it’s “secret” , it’s that it is off limits to the public, as we don’t need thousands of hands touching books from the 500’s .

Most of it is accounts and records from Constantinople after the Sacking in 1204. The Vatican had always hated the Roman Empire after they left Italy for the East.
Most of the documents are from the various Church Councils held by the Roman Empire from 330-1100 AD.
Why?
Because the documents tend to give full authority to the Emperor, and Eastern Patriarchates and Bishoprics. This takes away from the Papal Supremacy doctrine. Before Charlemagne, Popes had to be approved by the Roman Emperor in Constantinople (New Rome).
Why still keep some secret? Mostly because it's been a policy for centuries, so why not.
Also it's not like they are "secret" archives. Just not open to the public.

I see something that some "influencer" discovered in the Vatican "secret archives" almost daily. Apparently, they're the worst kept secrets ever and they're letting pretty much anyone with a social media account poke around down there.

There is more money in the basement than most countries. Meanwhile, certain diocese are filing for bankruptcy. Makes you wonder why the church allowed churches to close after Katrina.
Catholic Church has become so large that their goal is to protect the organization.
