The current Army Chief of Staff, when he was the I Corps Commander, famously responded to a question asking what if his policies conflict with Governor Inslee by saying "JBLM is a military base. I have the final say here, not the governor."

Ok? I am talking about the top brass being selected based on their compliance with the ideological commitments of the federal administration. I guarantee that no one who says "yeah, women in combat is degrading military effectiveness" is going to get promoted to be a multiple-star general.
