This is true, and it’s something I think a lot of people keep forgetting.

Maybe, maybe not.

The NCAA’s biggest issue at the moment is antitrust, since they’re the only game in town. It’s possible that a split might allow the new regulating body to claw some of that back. Or at a minimum, maybe it stops the bleeding. I don’t know if it’s likely, but it’s possible.

I think the more probable outcome of a split is that the top conferences finally bite the bullet and enter into collective bargaining, which would solve a lot of the issues around transfers specifically. OTOH, if they go into collective bargaining there the whole Title IX thing to navigate, since the member institutions would still be bound by it.
