Dont remember it like this last time.
News stories talking about how there wont be any food/gas left in places that are expecting an influx of visitors.
Is this a scare tactic to raise prices?

for the last one i was at ground zero in nashville and had to drive about 7 miles closer to town for the 'longest dark period' and my only recollection is we left about 30 minutes before it started and there was nothing out of the ordinary with traffic or anything else.

The estimate - Greenville, Texas 60k visitors, Sulphur Springs, Texas 120k visitors.
It will be a shitshow - long gas lines and it will overwhelm food places.
If I could go the night before to the family farm (dead center of the total eclipse) and leave the next day, I'd do it. I can drive there from where I live without refueling. Not worth the risk.

When hundreds of thousands of people drive in, rent a room for a few nights, all at the same time, and all those hundreds of thousands need to eat and refuel their vehicles, yeah it might put a bit of stress on the local economy.

Glad we secured our luxury bunker space in advance...

My sister in law was talking about plans to travel to see the eclipse.
Has this always been a thing? I never recall any talk of traveling for eclipses. You'd hop out, do the paper trick, check that box and move on.

I was in the direct line of the last one. Cool to see the streetlights come on, but no excessive crowd.

No.
Now take the tin foil off the top of your head.
