Connection time for international flight

Traveling to Italy next weekend from New Orleans. My connection through Dallas is only 50 mins. Is this enough time for my luggage to change planes? The other option to get to Dallas would get me there 5 hours early. Should I change flights?

Keep your flights. Day before if you see any bad weather forecasted for Dallas then switch to that 5 hr earlier flight

Where do you land in Italy and what is your final destination? I might be concerned about my bags enough that I would pack some clothes and toiletries in a carry-on bag in case my checked in luggage didn't get there right away

Landing in Rome and heading to the Amalfi Coast. Will absolutely do that...just in case.

Just looked up the weather for Dallas and the SE next weekend and it actually looks very good. So only thing to be cautious of is a mechanical or flight crew issue, otherwise should be just fine

Good advise for all international travel. Last time I went to Italy, first flight was delayed, barely made connection and my luggage didn't make it to Italy until 2 days later. Do you know how hard it is to find saline solution, contact cases and clothes to fit a 6'2' 250 lb American in Venice??

50 minutes is too close for me, and I’m a regular traveler.
I usually look for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Any weather, and you’ll have to sweat it out. 50 min and your bags probably won’t make it so carry on if you do it

I would avoid this issue by not checking bags at all. Never have checked a bag for an international trip.

We do the same because we learned that lesson years ago but some people and particularly some women feel that they have to have all those clothes and the 5 pairs of shoes. Because, god forbid some Italian might see them wearing clothes again that they had laundered on the trip.
To each his own.
To each his own.

Always solid...the other thing we do when traveling Internationally it to not pack one person per suitcase but rather split up different peoples clothes in each bag. That way if one person's bag is lost everyone loses a little rather than one person losing everything.
