Ironically the correct answer is to stop "fixing" the games!

That's the worst part of going. Can we go five seconds without some stupid theatrics on the court?

think as we get older we can't help but notice that basketball is a flawed sport. It's just not as fun to watch once you realize the patterns and the flow of the game, etc.
Definitely going to have an old man yells at cloud moment; but they've totally jacked up the flow of the games with the clock and defensive rules.
They incentivized overly fast paced games where there isn't any offensive strategy and have generally just looked to push points and scoring.
When they didn't allow a 24 second clock on an offensive rebound or missed shot and moved it to 14 it pressed the offenses to not bother with any sort of play to develop again.
Folks have talked about the defensive rule changes, not looking for anything from the 90's but they've overly indexed into a scenario of pretty much no defense at all.
Finally actually go through the rule book and call games actually in line with the rules. No more taking 9 steps for a layup. They've loosened the game up so much there's no structure left and it looks just like a pickup game.
As far as a flawed sport, that's 100% correct. I realized years ago that the most exciting and thrilling thing that can happen in a basketball game, will happen about 25 times in the game vs. a game like football where you can have a play happen that won't been seen again all year.

There is merit to this as well. It’s why the dunk contest is played out. It’s VERY difficult to think of, and execute, a dunk that hasn’t been done before.

I went to a high school 5A basketball game. There was intense hustle and defense non-stop. The offense was lacking, but the effort was outstanding. Weeks later I went to a Mavericks game, my first ever NBA game. Those dudes do not hustle. At all. They move the ball around effortlessly and the defenders just walk. Every now and then someone turns it on but the other 8 or 9 guys still walking. Everyone jacking up shots and that mostly go in.
They need to meet in the middle. However all these guys with their load management and what not won’t do that.

What about shrinking the lane or going without the 3 second rule?

the Demar/MJ comparison is spot on but these guys don’t watch the nba so they have no idea.
