Seems some stray cats climbed into my floor insulation in my camp mobile home. The bedroom reeks of cat piss. Is there anyway to rid that horrible smell? Thanks

How hard is it to get to the insulation? If easy or relatively easy, just remove it, spray the area with odor killer and replace the insulation with new.

Cat piss is some nasty stuff to deal with.

Not terribly hard to get to. I’ll just add that to my check list of things to get done at camp over the summer.

It’s a 60’ 2 bed 2 bath house trailer.

If I can’t get this smell out I may sell the whole darn set up here

Same fix for any piss smell, including your own, is to use a vinegar solution. Need acid to dissolve the urine crystals, bleach and other cleaners won't do it.

Cat spray and cat urine are different. Cat spray is a musk gland secretion. You just can’t get rid of it. Think skunk.
Cat pee can be neutralized with white vinegar.
First you have to get rid of the cats.
I’ve had service masters come in and it took them 3 rounds to get rid of the cat spray. $500 per treatment.
Good luck!

i would bet they were all over inside that trailer

important side note - dont use bleach to clean the trailer, only use ammonia.

the reason is, piss is full of ammonia, so if you clean piss with bleach it turns into a noxious gas that can choke you out.

ammonia and bleach makes phosgene gas, which can kill you in small enclosed spaces.

quote:

Phosgene is extremely poisonous and was used as a chemical weapon during World War I, where it was responsible for 85,000 deaths. It is a highly potent pulmonary irritant and quickly filled enemy trenches due to it being a heavy gas.
