I fought my weight for a long time. I finally got my head right and lost 60 lbs about 10 years ago. The weight is still off and I am in my 40’s and recently completed my first marathon.
These guys give a lot of good advice on diet execution and exercise.
I’ll add one tip from the mental side:
Accept the fact that you have made bad food/exercise choices for a while and the result of those choices is where you are at now. Don’t externalize the blame on whatever situation (work, kids, medical stuff etc) no matter how real they seem. The reality is for almost all of us there will always be those hindrances and distractions.
Accept that the choices that got you here were YOUR CHOICES. Once you truly do that the answer is easy on how to get out: MAKE BETTER CHOICES.
It took me a while to cross that hurdle mentally, but once I did, I got where I wanted to be. And stayed there.
