Joe DiMaggio in different ballparks

in the Crazy Joe DiMaggio stat thread, someone mentioned that playing in New York made Joe a star and he wouldn't have been one elsewhere.
That lead to discussion of ballparks.
well, the baseball nerd in me took over and I got to comparing ballparks for a RH pull hitter like DiMaggio.
I used my massively amazing MS Paint skills to put together some comps.
DiMaggio's most prolific HR season was 1937 when he hit 46.
We don't have spray charts available to know how far and what directions he hit them, but we do have splits to tell us what parks he hit them in.
so next several posts will be comparing 1937 Yankee Stadium to the other Stadiums he homered in back in 1937, as well as the current stadiums for those teams.

First off, Yankee Stadium (obviously)
Joe played 77 games there in '37 and hit 19 bombs.
And Yankee Stadium was HUGE in left field back then compared to the modern version.
Black Line is where current Yankee Stadium fence would fall compared to 1937
I don't think it's a stretch to say he would likely have hit noticeably more with the current configuration.

up Next Sportsman's Park, home of the then St. Louis Browns (who eventually moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles)
Joe played 12 games there in 1937 and hit 8 homers.
here is Sportsman's wall onto of 1937 Yankee Stadium
again, I don't think it's a stretch to say that had this been his home park, his HR numbers likely go up compared to Yankee Stadium.
and current Camden Yards vs the old Sportsman's Park
not as easy to decide on total numbers, but I'd say playing in Baltimore today probably lowers his number, so may not have gotten 8 in only 12 games there.

3rd on his 1937 HR list is old Comiskey Park.
11 games, 5 Dingers
again, a pretty drastic difference. if he had played for the White Sox, he would theoretically have had a noticeable bump in power.
and old Comiskey vs current whatever the hell they call that Stadium now
not a huge difference. without an actual spray chart, it's really impossible to know if there would be any difference between then and now.

4th on the list is Griffith Stadium (Washington Senators)
9 games 4 Homers
down the line in left was ridiculous 424'.
my best guess is he needs to thank Jesus he wasn't a senator.
his BA is likely higher because that is a ton of real estate to find a safe place to land a ball.
the Senators moved to Minnesota to become the current Twins.
its goes without saying Target Feed looks a lot more favorable to Right handers hitting bombs than Griffith was

I would have told the audience which way (or both) DiMaggio batted. I had to look that up myself. Old Yankee stadium favored lefties.

on to old Tiger Stadium (known as Navin Field in 1937)
Jesus! dude might have hit 60 if this was his home park.
Current Comerica Park is actually bigger out in left

edited OP to add that info.

Wonder what his slugging was in Fenway?

on to Fenway
9 games, 2 HR
the monster was already 37' tall than, so tough to tell.
but damn that is a SHOOORT porch compared to the cave in NY
and Fenway today is exact same in Left as it was then (was quite a bit deeper in Right back then though)

Shibe Park - Philadelphia A's
another drastic difference. he would have been an all time great HR guy in this park.
the coliseum in Oakland
a bit more of a challenge than the old park in Philly

and finally Cleveland.
the Indians actually used 2 parks in 1937.
played 10 games in the old League Park and hit 1 HR.
there is some ground in LC that would have left League that is a flyable out in the Bronx.
and 1 game in the (then) new Cleveland Stadium and homered.
easily the most similarly sized park to Yankee Stadium
and comparing The Jake (I ain't calling it Progressive!) to those 2 parks

Why were baseball stadiums so screwed up in the outfield?
Did they not have better land available to build a somewhat symmetrical park?

and just for shits and giggles because I found it and it brought back memories
the Superdome in the Baseball configuration from the old Winn Dixie Classic days

back then, most parks were just squeezed into whatever neighborhood they were built in.

in case anyone else is kinda nerdy about these things like I am, I'm willing to do comps on other stadiums as well if y'all have any requests.

Maris’ 1961 season
Hank Aaron’s MVP season 1957 with Milwaukee
Both would be interesting to me.
