A pair gathering groceries for their young:
No leaves on the tree. This was for an early brood. The male on the left has an earthworm, which the adults don't generally eat (or at least don't prefer) and aren't particularly the best diet for the young. They'll feed earthworms early in the year when pickings of other bugs are slim, but if you see a brood collapse or die off after the chicks have gotten a decent size, there's a good chance an earthworm-heavy diet is the culprit.
