There are numerous messaging apps on the iphone, they don't hold a monopoly there. Discord, snapchat, whatsapp, facebook messenger, telegram, hell even google voice is on there to name a few. Plenty of options not to deal with green bubbles and low quality images/videos. Old boomers stuck in their text messaging world apparently.

You going to get all your contacts to switch to your messaging platform of choice? Otherwise you get stuck with the crap.

Apple deserves what it gets, although Google isn't any better; they rigged their stuff to not work with the windows phone back in the day.

It's a pick your poison kind of thing. I don't play favorites.

I will admit that I've been wanting to get a pixel and play around with it as a side project. Graphene OS looks like something I could get behind, but I honestly don't know how "worth it" it is.

You realize not all the world even uses SMS/MMS right? WhatsApp is the preferred texting method in most of Europe because SMS/MMS isn’t priced like it is here and a lot of them do not even get it with their phone plans, so they don’t even receive messages in the default apps.

People can and will adapt to other communication methods without government intervention.
