I agree. It’s why I thought the show wasn’t extremely well done and why I didn’t like the focus on pure “entertainment”, which to me was just rushing through the story to keep viewers interested. I understand it, I just thought it could’ve been done better.

It's a running theme with film adaptation of books. Every director is terrified of doing a proper job. They instinctively are moved to change things here and there, to put their own spin on a story. And that's in the best scenario. Worse, we get those who don't respect or even hate the source...

The best book readers can hope for is the overall theme of the story is kept even if some things are added or altered.

Adding in murder for not playing the game was an odd choice. Not sure why they threw that in.

"We are going to murder people for really no reason, but you are no longer trustworthy because.... you lie. Because lying is definitely worse than murder."
