A line formed behind me at the gas station the other day because the chip on my card wouldn’t work. Then you have to play that game where you have to try the chip 3 times before it will let you swipe it.

I fricking hate chip cards. They never work.

Sometime after replacing my card a couple times, somebody taught me that scratching your chip with a fingernail (scuffing the layer of crud that builds up while in your wallet) works. If it doesn't read, take it out, scratch it a couple times, and then reinsert it.

Also, what I've learned about the magnetic stripes, is don't line them up in your wallet. If you have a couple cards, rotate them so the chips are on opposite sides. Less likely to demagnetize, that way.

Finally, a long time ago someone told me the eelskin wallets, while they look nice, tend to demagnetize cards in a hurry. I swapped to a different leather, and it seems to have worked.

The trick is 1. Don't tap it 2. Hold one side against the reader and turn it over to hold the other side.
Works every time! Try it and 3.thank me later
