What pine trees grow near you?

I'm in the south LA region (St. Martin Parish) and we seem to have an even number of Slash pines as well as Loblolly pines. We do have a sprinkle of Spruce pine (Pinus Glabra) as well but not many.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I have 9 large pines in my yard, and I have no idea what kind of pine trees they are! ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Loblolly should have 3 needles per bundle.
Slash has 2 and sometimes 3.
Loblolly has prickly cones that turn a gray color when older. And Slash cones are less prickly and have a brown semi-gloss look.
Shortleaf pine will have 2 needles per bundle and shorter than the Loblolly and Slash. Also have small cones.
Longleaf has tge longest needles in bundles of three and their young samplings look like a tuft of grass when in young stage

Which ones make the big pine cones? Like about 6 inches or more in length?

If they are fat they are probably long leaf.

As someone else said, prpably a longleaf pine or Slash. Longleaf has a bigger pine cone but a Slash's cone is a decent size as well. However a longleaf's needles will be 10-12 inches in length while a Slash pine's needles are between 6-8

I got the kind that are 6" in diameter and 40' high. Hate these MFers. Look like a dancing blow up noodle when its windy outside.
