Someone smarter than me explain how he knew from an almanac that there would be a visible total lunar eclipse over Jamaica?
Someone on that boat must have been smart as hell.
I’m sure it could be figured out technically, but the evil genius plan seems suspect.
Seems like he probably just took advantage of the lunar eclipse when it happened.

Stars were a major way seafarers navigated. They had special tools for calculating longitude and latitude, and tracking astronomical events was important. It was a super crafty move, but definitely not outside the capabilities of the people on that expedition at the time.
