Dude is more authentically "southern" and country than 99 percent of these skinny jean wearing dudes repeating the same lyrics about "driving a jacked a truck and drinking a cold one by the river in the moonlight"
And that is a huge problem, becaues he is not county at all. He is nothing more than white trash.

Music aside, the guy will readily admit that he was a huge selfish POS and in a very dark place in his life, but he pulled himself out and has turned his life around. You can not care for his music but recognize and appreciate his story. He seems to be a pretty grounded and introspective person now.
His testimony before congress on the fentanyl issue is pretty compelling if you haven't listened to it.

First time I ever heard of this guy was during a tribute show for George Jones that was on PBS a couple weeks ago.
He looks like a tatted up version of Meat Loaf and the only song I heard him sing on that show left me wondering how he even got invited to appear in the first place.
I wouldn't walk across the street to see him for free.
Oh, and my wife's reaction was: "How in the hell does someone get that damn fat"?

What do you think country music is?

I’m sorry but what do you think the genesis of country music was?

I remember when they said the same thing about Waylon, and Willie and Johnny.

Gatekeeping musical genres is an exercise in futility that only Don Quixote could enjoy. Musicians are a creative lot and genre-bending comes naturally to them. I will say that outside of Bluegrass, the devotees of Country are the most protective of what they define as fitting the genre. It makes life easier to just enjoy what you like and forget about labels. There are very few sub-genres of music that I can't find at least something I like. The good thing about music is it never dies. I can listen to Night Train to Memphis by Roy Acuff right now if I like.
