If you had to pick one of the three sports to be good at to compete in triathlon, swimming would be the worst.

Even for s super sprint, the time in the water is just such a short amount of time when looking at the overall time. Now, to truly be competitive you do need to be a good swimmer (or just an off the charts cyclist or runner) but most people can compete in their age group just being adequate in the water.

Running is different...you can barely survive the swim but if you're a college cross country runner, chances are you're doing to do pretty well.

Lance Armstrong used to dominate any tri he entered because he was a competitive swimmer in high school and then would just blow the doors off everyone on the bike (yeah ill just hold 320w and see how it goes). Of course the a-hole would still rip off low 6 miles after all that. Shame he never really wanted to get serious with it.
