its because youve chosen mega corporations rather than mom and pops, which unfortunately is the norm now. McDonalds, BK, CFA, Taco Bell are just like starter home neighborhoods. To save costs and ensure the brand, they offer only a couple of design options.
I dont have anything against these corporations for doing this. It's probably smart business. Customers will mostly choose lower prices and consistent products over the opposite.
But given the option, I try to shop at local places like hardware stores. You cant replace the old guys working there to give you actual advice.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Mega corps have taken over most of retail and a huge chunk of the restaurant market, both fast food and otherwise. Everything is designed to be standard and non offensive. This has slowly become the norm rather than the outlier it was 30-40 years ago as the corps took over everything.
