Re tacklers vs "spectacular defensive players", I go back to the Dome Patrol as a point of reference.
Rickey Jackson was a HOF and the heart of the team.
Pat Swilling was a sack machine
Sam Mills was elite
But for 'best tackler', give me Vaughn Johnson. When he hit your arse, you went down right there. Faced off with a RB in the open field, he would hit, wrap up, and no further gain. Really the only question before contact was how long it would take for the RB to get up
Which is why I don't take a safety. Just my personal preference.
