This is the inevitable result of college football becoming a zillion dollar business instead of a sport.
Did anyone REALLY expect players to be satisfied with tuition, books, board and medical care with that much cash floating around?

It wouldn’t have mattered if players got a healthy stipend. Players would have wanted more and it would have always come to this.
