Townsend was First Team All Pro last season. He’s a very good - great punter.
But they probably think they can get similar results with Araiza (and/or perhaps their analytics team/front office doesn’t see much marginal difference between most punters) and Townsend is a free agent who will command “top punter value”. They’re trying to re-sign Chris Jones among others, every dollar counts. This is a salary cap move.
